Open House and Group Events

Throughout the season the Centerville Curling Club hosts a few open houses to allow new people to stop by and try the sport for free. Each open house lasts 2-3 hours and is open for anyone age 8 and up. Instructors (generally club members) will be available to teach you the basics of the sport including the rules of the game, physical play, and strategy. Our goal is to get you out on the ice and throwing stones so, we won't bore you with instructional videos or long talks about the sport. As soon as enough people are comfortable with their develivery and sweeping abilities we generally get you on teams and allow you to play a few ends of a game.

We can also schedule ice time for other groups such as coporate events, team building excersises, or if you have a group of friends that just wants to give it a try. We do charge a small fee per person for these events.

What to wear

The ice temperature is right around 40 degrees so, it is cold out there. You will be squatting down and doing lunge-like positions so clothing should allow you to move freely. Curling ice is also kept as clean as possible. Any debris on the ice can drastically affect the stones movement as it slides down the ice. Here are a few things we recommend:

  • Sweatshirt or light jacket (fleece or similar fabrics are not recommended because they tend to shed debris on the ice)
  • Loose fitting, warm pants (bluejeans are generally not recommended)
  • Light weight gloves and a hat
  • Clean Shoes!

Athletic shoes are fine but they must be clean. We prefer that you clean them prior to coming to the club and not wear them outside. If you must wear them to the club please be sure to clean them well before you step on the ice. Any small pebble, grain of sand, or salt can really affect the stones movement and ruin the ice.
